About Us

Stockton-on-Tees Crematorium, due to open in the summer of 2019, is located on the northern edge of the town, built on the site of the former Blakeston School playing fields, off Junction Road, Norton, and is easily accessed via the A19. The Crematorium is owned and managed by Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council.

The Crematorium is a purpose-built, single storey, state-of-the-art building, set within its own expansive grounds. The site has been designed with simplicity and ease of access in mind, and has been attractively landscaped and planted with a wide variety of trees and shrubs, evoking an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity.
This mood is further enhanced with a number of complementary gardens and memorial features:

  • Memorial Wall and Gardens
  • Remembrance Garden with bespoke commissioned metal artwork
  • Book of Remembrance, set in its own Pavilion, with a granite water feature
  • Infant Memorial Garden

For funeral services, the Crematorium will offer a choice of the superbly finished Maplewood and Bluebell Chapels. Both are light and airy in character, and are equipped with high specification digital media systems.

The crematory itself has been designed with consideration for the local environment in mind. It utilises two of the latest and most efficient cremators, equipped with filtration systems which meet current emissions regulations, and thereby ensure that our Crematorium is one of the cleanest facilities of its kind. The crematory is also fitted with a viewing room, from where the committal may be witnessed.

To the right of the main Crematorium building is the administration office, where the Bereavement Services staff are based, and who will be pleased to assist you.

The Crematorium will provide ample on-site car-parking facilities. The main car park is situated to the right of the Maplewood Chapel. It has space for 93 cars, disabled parking for 5 cars, and an overflow parking area, if required. There is also a smaller car park, serving the Bluebell Chapel, to the left of the Crematorium building, with space for an additional 35 cars and disabled parking for 3 cars.
